The Odd Couple: Shining Star and Wild
🎶 Velouria's Odd Song of the Day
Feel good double feature day! Sunday’s Odd Song was missed, so it’s two for the price of one here at Velouria’s Odd Song of the Day. It seems fitting as the sunrise this morning was so pretty we kinda have to celebrate with an extra song.
Shining Star by Earth, Wind & Fire
I grew up listening to classics from Motown and Stax; Soul and R&B are in my blood. My dad loved both the old music and the disco inspired direction it was moving. He liked to play it often and loud. One of my favorites of his favorites was always Earth, Wind & Fire. Who doesn’t like September? Nobody doesn’t, or so I’d guess as it has been streamed over a billion times on Spotify. (1,227,496,441 streams as of this moment)
Since we’re focused on the beautiful sky today, Shining Star seemed the perfect Earth, Wind & Fire song to start the double feature. It’s Taco Tuesday, it’s a lovely morning, why not start with something that makes you want to move your body and pick up your mood?
Shining Star by Earth, Wind & Fire
Yeah, hey, hey
When you wish upon a star
Your dreams will take you very far, yeah
But when you wish upon a dream
Life ain't always what it seems, oh yeah
What you see on nights so clear, hey
In the sky so very dear, yeah?
You're a shining star
No matter who you are
Shining bright to see
What you could truly be
(What you could truly be)
Shining star come into view
To shine its watchful light on you
Give you strength to Perry oh yeah
Yeah, make your body big and strong, yeah
Born a man-child of the sun, yeah
Yeah, saw my work had just begun
Yeah, found I had to stand alone, yeah
Bless it now, I've got my oh no
Oh yeah, oh yeah
So, if you find yourself in need
Why don't you listen to these words of heed
Be a giant or grain of sand
Words of wisdom, yes, I can
You're a shining star
No matter who you are
Shining bright to see
What you could truly be
You're a shining star
No matter who you are
Shining bright to see
What you could truly be
You're a shining star
No matter who you are
Shining bright to see
What you could truly be
Shining star for you to see
What your life can truly be
Shining star for you to see
What your life can truly be
Shining star for you to see
What your life can truly be
Wild by Spoon
Huge Spoon fan here. I’d always loved The Beast and Dragon, Adored but didn’t dive into their catalogue fully until I met Albert. He’d gone to school in Austin, Texas, and had developed a fondness for them, as I’d suppose most Austinites have. They are a five star band that somehow still plays clubs; in other words, they are pretty much perfect. A band with a stellar setlist that has managed to avoid overcrowded arena spectacles and all the annoyance that comes with them is a band I’m going to pledge my loyalty too.
Wild is off their latest album. I chose it for the vibe. It is an open, airy song that makes you feel good. The song lives up to its title.
Wild by Spoon
I was reminded every measure
Of riding trade winds
Buried treasure
I got on fine with modern living
But must I be such a citizen
And the world still so wild called to me
I was lost, I'd been kept on my knees
Trippers and askers
They surrounded me
All them describing
How they'd like me
All them wanting
Something special
Bring em roses
Sing them blues
And the world still so wild called to me
I'd been caught, I was lost on my knees
I looked full over all the lies and
Appealing to me advertising
And I was living tight every night
And the world still so wild called to me
I was lost I'd been kept on my knees
And the world still so wild called to me
Good luck having a bad day after you pumped out the Odd-Song-Feel-Good-Double-Feature!!
Tell me how these songs have impacted you, either just now or in your past. I am truly curious. What’s your song story or memory?
